“Huntington native Jeff Cunningham is one of the lucky (and busy) few to simultaneously juggle an indie-rock band (Slingshot Dakota), a hardcore punk band (the Solidarity Pact) and now, a solo folk career. Even with all that other creativity, he expertly expresses personal conflicts and topical social matters on ‘The Poems Stuck in My Teeth’. He doesn't waste any time getting to the latter, as the first song, "Just the Pictures Around the House," concerns being pro-choice. He tells a story of a father telling his daughter about her courageous mother, emphasized with spoken word at the finish. "Yo, Teen Years or Beam Years" and "Night Life So Kind," which includes such companionable words as "let us drink till we throw up our sorrow," are filled out by drums and harmonica, adding to Cunningham's layered vocals. "The Greatest Lie Tonight" goes deep into his personal side, as he confesses that "depression is enough." Maintaining earnest vocals, the young Cunningham seems older and wiser than he should, turning sketches of life into meaningful statements that are easy to listen to and difficult to ignore. 9 out of 10.” -- www.longislandpress.com
