epilogue vol 1

Birds of India / Elora Danon - Split 7 inch

Ooh yeah, Birds of India on this split do such an awesome song. It is called Bloomers and it is a deliciously tuneful and catchy indie rocker that sounds like something that you would have heard if the Promise Ring made an album that came between Nothing Feels Good and Very Emergency. To me, that's a really good thing. It's all nice and clean guitars with strongly sung vocals that are like if von Bohlen had no lisp, it's quite scary how similar they are really, even down to the kind of vocal structure that they adopt on this song. The guitars build up and roll along with the bass bubbling along excitedly. It's the kind of track I could listen to over and over, I hope that this band has done more stuff, and I hope that it is as good as this. Great great great. I reckon if you like the Promise Ring or Pylon, you will go nuts for this.

Elora Danon are on the other side, and they have the tough job of living up to such a great song. They don't really succeed as far as I am concerned, although this is quite a nice and subdued indie rocker that slowburns gently with fairly intricate guitar work and warm vocals. Towards the end it suddenly gets a bit mathy and Braid-ish. Which is nice.
