After a hiatus following the disbandment of Fudge Tunnel, Alex Newport returns to that unique brand of acrimonious sonics. After moving to San Francisco and making a name for himself producing acts such as At the Drive-In, the Icarus Line, and the Melvins, he found himself becoming increasingly frustrated with the current pathetic state of music and decided to pick up the guitar again. Theory Of Ruin couples Newport's angular, groove-laden guitar work and vocals with the staunch rhythms of David Link and Ches Smith. The end result is somewhere between the late 70s art-punk of Gang of Four/Wire and the full-on sludge riffery of noise polluters Fudge Tunnel and Godflesh.
